WWDC 2025 is right around the corner and that means a couple of things for me. First and foremost, it means I'm reviewing my books and deciding which parts I should be updating regardless of what happens at WWDC. It's my way of preparing for what might be coming.

Book updates

At this point, I think Practical Combine is stable and won't need any updates unless Apple decides to release something Combine-related next week (which I doubt).

Practical Core Data doesn't need any major updates at the moment, but if WWDC includes some major Core Data changes I will of course incorporate this into the book. If you're wondering about Swift Data, this next section is for you...

Practical Swift Data does not exist. Yet. I started working on a Swift Data book when the framework was released but hit a bunch of hurdles that made me decide to postpone the book. After gaining more Swift Data experience in the past two years, and because I'm hoping that Apple will update the framework this year I'm planning to continue working on the book. Even if it has some issues that remain, I want this book to exist, and based on what I've been hearing from readers, you want this book too.

Because of the differences between Core Data and Swift Data, I won't be providing Practical Swift Data as a free upgrade. Instead, I will be offering a good discount for folks that want to "update" to Swift Data. You can expect something along the lines of 50% off. I will keep you posted once pre-orders for Practical Swift Data open up.

Practical Swift Concurrency will receive some big updates for Swift 6.2. I'm already working on these updates and figuring out how to incorporate the most important changes into the book's narrative. The update I'm working on will be available for free for all owners of the book and I plan to have it ready for release in a couple of months, probably in the second half of the upcoming beta cycle.
